Bucket List Item: Lose a Marathon

I never was one for running. It was the part of P.E. that I absolutely dreaded. I know some people who absolutely swear by it. I'm still not buying it. Instead of adding "win a marathon" or even "run a marathon" to my bucket list, I have decided to LOSE a marathon. Yes, you read that correctly...sorta.

I recently came across this blog that talks about a challenge to lose 26.2 pounds. I certainly have more than that to lose, but I thought this sounded like a fun challenge.

I'm not off to the best start these first few weeks. However, our family recently received a year long membership at a nearby, posh health club in exchange for services my husband provided. So far we have only taken advantage of the "water park," as my daughter calls it. Hubby will meet with the trainer tomorrow morning to get on a workout regimen. I am going to make an appointment this week as well. We are both on a mission to shrink!

START - Monday, June 18, 2012
FINISH - Monday, Sept. 17, 2012

Registration for the official challenge is now closed. However, you can still join in! Please leave me a comment below if you want to lose a marathon, too! Let's do this together!

10 pounds by March 19! Can She Do It & other random thoughts!

Back Story: Hubby surprised me with a trip to Long Beach area for a fundraiser benefit dinner dealio. He's gone to it the last couple of years and last year determined that wives were invited this year.

He was planning to surprise me with this trip on Valentine's day, which IS surprising since I'm not a big fan of surprises. Well, I should say I wouldn't have been hip to the idea if he'd say, sprang this on me within a week of the trip! As it turns out, he was planning to let me know on Valentine's day. However, he recently invested in a fancy wireless printer so that we can more easily share the printer. However, the printer is in my office, so I saw things like airplane reservations with my name on them, a flier for the benefit dinner event, etc.

Why does all this matter & what does it have to do with weight loss? Well, I'm still lingering around 190. The other "wife" in this equation, was preggo the same time I was and has recently shed 90 pounds! That is not a typo. She's not big on exercise so she's done it purely with her diet. She's now posting daily diet tips on her Facebook. While I am very happy for her, I am not looking forward to standing next to her size six self at this event.

I know there is no way I will EVER be a size 6 again and I'm fine with that. What I CAN do, is seriously commit to drinking my minimum water every day, taking my fiber and detox tea, and doing some form of exercise every day! Mostly that will be my Wii because I can keep better track of it. Plus, the weather's been crappy and not very conducive to walking.

Other random thoughts:

I was feeling quite depressed this morning. I won't get into details, but I have a lot going on right now that would cause a person to have such feelings. It's no suprise and certainly not considered "clinical depression" because it is due to overwhelming circumstances, not a chemical imbalance in my brain. Anyway, so I was having some really ugly thoughts and comtemplating a donut or six...I took a break and got a small bite to eat (love them Lara Bars!), and started up the Wii Fit Plus.

Wow! What a DIFFERENCE! (Side note: My Wii fit age was significantly higher today than earlier in the week. I find that interesting considering the difference in my mental/emotional state between the two fitness tests! Just sayin'!)

So I'm not meeting my commitment 100% yet, but every day I am drinking more water and have exercised more days than not this week. That's a pretty good start. Oh, I'm also down almost 3#, according to the Wii scale. I think I like the Wii scale better than my bathroom scale! Not just because it reflects a lighter weight, but it shows improvement even when my bathroom scale seems to report the same numbers!

There ya have it. I'll try to post more often!

Getting a Jump Start on My New Year's Resolutions!

For Christmas, my hubby gave me a Cricut Expression and a Wii Fit Plus System! Wahooo! I guess he figured he'd eliminate all my excuses not to achieve my New Years Resolutions!

In 2010 I will get up to date on my daughter's scrapbook. This resolution will be documented in my crafty-mama blog.

I will also lose weight and get healthy (you guessed it, my journey will be documented here!). My first set of goals is not based on pounds to lose. Over at SparkPeople (if you join, please use MRSKPL as your referrer!), my Fast Break goals are:
  • Get 10 minutes of cardio exercise
  • Drink 8 8oz cups of water
  • Listen to a get-up-and-go song every day (I think the Wiggles count!)
Right now my weight loss goal at Spark People is go from my current weight of 192, according to my bathroom scale, to 160 by 12/21/2010. To achieve this goal, I will need to consume between 1510 & 1860 calories per day, and burn 680 calories per week.
